Mojo Gets Great Start In First Tourney of Spring

The Permian Girls Golf team kicked off their first tournament of the spring with a great start on Feb. 3rd – 4th.  The varsity team competed in the San Angelo Golf Classic and finished 8th among the 19 teams.  At a closer look, the girls competed against El Paso Eastwood, San Antonio Churchill and San Antonio Reagan which all qualified for last year’s state tournament.

Senior Randi Hanfeld led Friday’s round for the team with an impressive score of 75 at the Bentwood Country Club.  Macee Lane who struggled in the first nine with a 49, stormed back with a remarkable 2 over par 38 on the back to finish with an 87.  Freshmen Sydney McCullough and MacKenzie Poston carded rounds of 91 while McKynzie Golden made her varsity debut carding a round of 96.
The second day proved to be quite of a challenge for the field of 90 girls as temperatures remained in the 30’s for almost the entire round.  After 8 holes, Hanfeld found herself at 8 over par; however, after bogeying a few more holes, Randi managed to drop a few more birdies and finished with an 80 despite the extremely cold conditions.  She finished 7th in the medalist race in a field of 90 golfers.

In Monahans it was Ruth Nabarrette who led the JV Black team to a 2nd place finish tied with Andrews.  It was a scorecard playoff and the lack of a 5th player that resulted in a 3rd place tie breaking finish for the Lady Panthers.  Nabarrette finished 3rd in the medalist race with rounds of 87 and 87.  Also in the top ten were Bailee Cook who who finished 4th with rounds of 91-90, Meagan Jones was 6th shooting 91-96 and Sara Carrasco claimed 10th with 98-96.
